What would a princess be without a frog? What would a frog be without a princess? Princesses will come together for frog conservation at the Houston Zoo’s first Princess Day: A Benefit for Frog Conservation on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon. Meet some real frogs (endangered Houston toads, actually) and the keepers who care for them. Princesses can enjoy finger sandwiches, cookies and punch and have their picture taken with the Zoo’s frog mascot. It’s B.Y.O.T. (Bring Your Own Tiara). Costumes are encouraged. Feb. 13: Enjoy Tapas on the Trails, A Valentine’s Evening at the Arboretum
Looking for something different to do with your special someone this Valentine’s Day? Make reservations for an evening of gourmet food and wine on the trails of the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. Enjoy a stroll along a forest path encountering food stations, each with a tapas menu prepared by Chef Adam Paul. A selection of wines will be served to compliment each food selection. Feb. 20: Men Who Cook for L.E.A.F.
The planning committee for Men Who Cook 2010 is finalizing the details for this year’s event, to be held February 20, at Safari Texas in Richmond. The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m., with the Billie Ledbetter Orchestra providing the evening’s musical entertainment.
While the tasty temptations of more than 70 celebrity chefs is reason enough to attend, auctioneer-extraordinaire Jeff Council will be on hand to dispense with seven exciting items in the live auction.
Proceeds from the evening are used to support the creative ideas and classroom projects by Lamar CISD teachers that would otherwise go unfunded. L.E.A.F. also offers scholarship to graduating Lamar CISD students and to paraprofessionals working on their teaching certificates.
In nine years of existence, LE.A.F. has invested more than $1 million into LCISD schools.

Feb. 23: IHOP’S FREE PANCAKE GIVEAWAY
IHOP plans to serve millions of free pancakes in celebration of National Pancake Day on Tuesday, February 23.
More than 1,400 IHOP restaurants throughout the United States will once again invite guests to enjoy a free short stack of IHOP’s signature buttermilk pancakes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on National Pancake Day. In return, IHOP guests are asked to donate what they would have paid for the free pancakes, or more, to the Children’s Miracle Network hospital in their community, or another designated local cause.

March 12 to October 22: Bats on the Bayou - Boat Tours
Have you ever wondered how a bat sleeps? How much food a bat can eat in one hour? Or how a bat contributes to the ecosystem? Beginning at dusk, learn the answers to these questions as we board the Bayou Breeze Pontoon Boat. The 90-minute guided tour featuring Houston's colony of Mexican Free-Tailed bats is guaranteed to be both mesmerizing and informative.

Bunny, Egg Hunt Fans Get Set for Annual EGGStravaganza
All eager egg hunters and fans of the Easter bunny should
make their way to Eldridge Park on Saturday, March 27, between noon and 3 p.m.,
for the City of Sugar Land’s 26th Annual EGGStravaganza.Children up to 12 years old will be able to take part in
the City’s unique version of egg hunts, famously titled “egg
scrambles,” for treat-filled eggs and the chance to win some special prizes.
Children with special needs will also be able to join in
this afternoon of egg hunting fun with the return of an egg-scramble area
designed for their needs. Following positive feedback from last year’s
successful introduction of a special needs area, beeping eggs and a hay bale
course.
The Easter bunny will also be hopping in for this occasion
and will be available for photo opportunities throughout the event. All
activities will be free and open to the public and refreshments will be sold. For
